Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain at 4,566 meters, is located 20 kilometers east of Arusha in Arusha National Park. The climb typically takes 3-4 days, often used by climbers for acclimatization before tackling Kilimanjaro. Unlike Kilimanjaro, Meru requires an armed ranger escort, offering a unique walking safari through wildlife-rich areas with buffaloes, zebras, and colobus monkeys. The trek also passes the bird-filled Momela and Ngurdoto Lakes, home to pelicans and flamingos, making it an unforgettable adventure.
